Our Story...
Mary, Becca and Sian are Focus Photography.
Mary is a professional photographer, photographing portraits and events for over 25 years. She has used her camera, and more recently her smartphone- as a tool for therapeutic and mindful photography for personal work and within the community .
Having previously run workshops with schools under Hertsmere and Three Rivers Wellbeing grants - by using photography as a tool to discuss difficult subjects such as : Identity -whilst building confidence and discussing the influence of imagery in the social media. It was during Lockdown she decided to take it further and study an MA photography, completed in 2023 focusing on Therapeutic and Mindful Photography.
Mary has since qualified as a Mindful Photography facilitator under the Look Again Photogramme in September 2024. Using the foundations of the programme, Focus now offer unique workshops - that comprise of all forms of photography: from contemporary/digital to analogue and the old forms of processing, as there are many ways to FOCUS on your wellbeing using photography and art.
Mindful Photography and Therapeutic Photography can be found in all the workshops - available to choose from. The beauty of these workshops/sessions is that participants can 'Be' as well as learn new 'ways of seeing' whilst having fun. There is something for everyone as within photography there are all the elements of science, maths and art to capture the imagination. Participants will create unique/personal images that may bring a sense wellbeing in an otherwise frantic world.
Becca is the organiser, thank goodness! She's the one that makes sure paperwork/admin is up to date and where it needs to be. She has the CIC knowledge and has been involved with the community, as co-Director of Strive CIC - an organisation that aims to help parents of neurodiverse youngsters navigate their way in the education and health systems. Becca has also been involved in school and faith groups, assisting with programmes to bring communities together such as coffee and cake groups for the lonely parishioners and baby and toddler groups.
Sian is involved in many areas inc. a local secondary school governing board, The Hygiene Bank and a local Woodcraft Folk Group. Sian is Focus Photography's safeguarding Queen.
The Trio are joint directors of Focus Photography and are available to speak to about any queries regarding workshops e.g allergens, disability participation.
